I have not blogged for a very long time and I am in two minds if I should start fresh on a clean slate or just pick up sweet pea as if noting had ever happened and continue on. 


In the past I have always liked to shoe-box things. And while it is fun to come back to these shoe boxes years later and sift through I also feel a weight of responsibillty, almost like abanding a child I was to just let sweet pea hang in dirty cyber space with all the other discarded, unwanted, abanded blogs. Like the items is a shoe box these posts are my memoeries. They should be cherished as they are small parts of the puzzel that make up the bigger picture of my life in Wellington. 


However at the same time is not inmportant that a person grows and moves on? And therefore I should be able to leave this as is. This is a great exmaple of a moment in time that I was interested in this. Like playing the drums, having flower gardens and collecting porcaline animals.

Nothing makes one more inspired than change. Moving to Sydney is doing me a world of good and I'm slowly starting to kick start the new chapter in my story

flamingo fascination

pretty porcelain

Isn’t this gorgeous!
“Designer Kristen Wicklund is showing a beautiful collection of crocheted cotton lace dipped in liquid porcelain. After Kristen dips the lace in porcelain she fires it in a mold; during the firing the fiber burns out completely and leaves a (gorgeous) hollow porcelain shell of lace.”
It makes me think what else you could do with liquid Porcelain. It seems like a cool material to use.

sweet knitters

Just down the road from me on Vivian street is an empty lot. Some sweet people have decided to give the sad little spot some much needed love with a bit of colourful, cheerful knitting. Isn't it sweet.

i've been busy

I have been a busy bee. But I can give you a little sneak peak at what I’ve been doing. They are still in the early stages and are just about to be fired. I’m loving china painting and I’m especially loving that I have been making time to be creative again. I will keep you posted with my new pieces from this weekend as I’m running away to the beach for the weekend to allow myself to become introverted and engrossed in the china.

The kingfisher is to sit in a necklace and the cupcake is done on old second hand china. I’m super excited about combining lovely old prints with my own to create new pieces.

strawberry shortcake

A friend of mine reminded me of strawberry shortcakes the other day. It made me think of the yummy talc kin powder I had as a kid as it smelt like strawberry shortcake. Mmmm yummy!

truely girly

This image reminds me of childhood and therefore home. I am also really looking forward to spending some time at home this summer, sitting by the lake, reading on the freshly cut grass, playing on the tree swing and having continuous high tea under the trees.

I saw this article on frankie the other day about the bondi film festival. It is accepting indie films from the public. Oh i would love to go... (hint hint). I can't wait for summer; the beach the sun the surf, yum

fascination begins at childhood

Seeing this picture made me think about where my fascination with tea cups came from. Like most things I relate it back to my childhood. My cousin and I were the only girls in the family at the time so whenever we visited my Nana she would make an effort to get out the good china and play ladies with us. I appreciate the time she spent doing these things with us and I hope that this still happens with girls today. Though one does doubt... but that’s a whole other rant that I don’t care to press today. For today is a day of aesthetic pleasure for me.
I’m going up to visit her this weekend on top of the grand hill the live upon. It has been a while and I hope to fosic and dabble in the closets and cabinets of my Grandparents old things. And of course play ladies.

a wall of draws

I saw this on design sponge* the other day. I would love a wall that had lots of different, beautiful draws inserted into it. Big, long, decorative ones, heavy, fat, metal ones where I could store stamps and inks, small, sweet, intricate ones with little handles filled with gems and sparkles. And it would reach right from the floor to the roof. I would have a ladder to climb up to reach the most precious draws at the top.

Humm i feel like I’m harry potter choosing my wand now. Ha, my childish fantasies.

original 70's wallpaper

During the weekend I stayed with one of my good friend’s grandparents. I have heard many stories about these people and they outlived expectations by far. They were extremely welcoming and were more than happy to share tall tales of their migration the New Zealand (via Australia on a flying boat) from Holland. One little treasure I couldn’t help but record was the amazing wallpaper they had in their home. It was in mint condition and I was informed it was original from the 70’s. I’m not sure what I will do with the patterns but I hope to use them for some kind of design; maybe a new blog design…

Anyway I thought it would be nice to share with you.

clouds, feathers, fashion

Semi permanent was on in Auckland over the weekend. I was unable to go but i hear there were some wonderful presentations. Alexiz Sinclair was a favourite and from these pieces you can see why I’m a fan. My obsession has been captured in these pieces; clouds, feathers, fashion. And all done in such a girly glamorous almost surreal style. Apparently she spoke on her difficulty finding her place between photography and fine arts.
