fascination begins at childhood

Seeing this picture made me think about where my fascination with tea cups came from. Like most things I relate it back to my childhood. My cousin and I were the only girls in the family at the time so whenever we visited my Nana she would make an effort to get out the good china and play ladies with us. I appreciate the time she spent doing these things with us and I hope that this still happens with girls today. Though one does doubt... but that’s a whole other rant that I don’t care to press today. For today is a day of aesthetic pleasure for me.
I’m going up to visit her this weekend on top of the grand hill the live upon. It has been a while and I hope to fosic and dabble in the closets and cabinets of my Grandparents old things. And of course play ladies.

My cousin is starting out her new label Charcole here in NZ. There are some pics from her first collection; very stree, almost punk yet versatile and can easily be dressed up or down. Kepp an eye on this young lady here as she has got a lot to come!.

family bible

A couple of weekend's ago I went to visit my Grandma Beth (my Dad's Mother). It had been a while since I had seen her and it's always lovely to catch up. I asked if I could see the family bible as I remember only ever seeing this once, when I was a child. As a child I was so interested in these kind of things (family history; photographs, heirlooms, jewelry, trees...etc)   but I viewed from a far as I was to keep my grubby fingers away from it. 

Looking at it now it brought me such pleasure to see the hand written family register that my great great grandfather would have written. Family bibles acted as encyclopedias as books were very expensive to print and this would have been one of the only books in most house holds. There is information on local plants, wildlife and customs, maps and of course the story of the bible.  

One of the only pages that was printed in colour is the lords prayer. I'm amazed at how well the colour has held after more than 150 years. 

While this book is old they aren't worth a lot of money as most families will have one. They hold a lot more centermental value than monetary. This sounds a little cheesey but I hope that one day this is left to me. I would prefer to have this rather than all the diamonds, properties or money that may one day be left to divy up as I know that this has been held in the hands of the wonderful fathers before me.

My sister and I have started a blog together it is all very exciting! As young girls we play with the role that we are expected to play in the little movie called life; the expectation of a farming lifestyle and the social standard that comes with it. family fame

My cousin Charlie recently finished design school and has started making her name in the big wide world. The other day one of her jackets from her final collection was featured in M2 magazine. It was featured along with pieces from World and Zambiesi. I’m very impressed! This is one lady to keep an eye on!
