i've been busy

I have been a busy bee. But I can give you a little sneak peak at what I’ve been doing. They are still in the early stages and are just about to be fired. I’m loving china painting and I’m especially loving that I have been making time to be creative again. I will keep you posted with my new pieces from this weekend as I’m running away to the beach for the weekend to allow myself to become introverted and engrossed in the china.

The kingfisher is to sit in a necklace and the cupcake is done on old second hand china. I’m super excited about combining lovely old prints with my own to create new pieces.

oh hello skin

I’m still on a high from my lovely weekend of doing a whole lot of nothing in my very own house all by my very own self. Not having commitments is fantastic sometimes and I filled my weekend with baking; cookies, caramel slice and chocolate brownies,

making cheese and butter (a trial for Brownies last night, which went very well and the girls loved it almost as much as I did.)

I also made up a little home baking pack for a friend who had moved into a new flat and the neighbour who fixed our sky dish (major dramas) and went and visited them.

While I didn’t get around to scrapbooking I did buy myself a new one. Isn’t it so sweet...

The rest of the time I filled my day with reading (online and offline :)), getting to the gym and the Sunday market. I have a similar schedule on the books this weekend, however there are a couple of wild cards thrown in there... ha you know who you are. A relaxing weekend does really make a big difference; I feel like my old self, I haven’t felt like her... me, properly for ages. It’s good to be back in my skin.

Oh and the cheese recipe is here and super easy if you want to give it a go!

a delightful little trip

This term at brownies our theme is the animal badge. We have had puppies in from the RSPCA, made animal masks and moulded animal figures out of mazipan. Last weekend we went to the zoo.

Personally I was very impressed with the zoo. I haven’t been there for a good 5 or 6 years and was relieved to see it was no longer just animals stuck in cages. Lush bush now spills onto path ways, themed shelters have been constructed and the animals seem happy to be there. And while there isn’t a great number of animals I was impressed to see the keepers making the most of the ones they did have, bringing them into the new auditorium to do a show and tell (which the girls loves). I was also stoked to see that they are in the early stages of building an animal hospital.

We got very up close and personal with the gariffs as the new enclosure allows one to stand at head height to them while in their holding pens. They circled round and round their 8 m by 10 m holding pen waiting to be feed, working themselves up into a state that was rather surreal and frightening.

My favorite was of course the lions. We were lucky to arrive just as they had been fed and one female lion was happy to sit right in front of us as she feasted on her mid day snack.

Oh the zoo how i love it. But I must admit that it was good to return to the warmth of home and the comfort of my bed as I had been to London Elektricity the night before and was in need of some decent sleep.

domesticated 101 : Sewing and Craft

Yes during the weekend I also tackled that never ending pile of clothes that were to be mended; buttons that need to be sewed on, hems that need to be taken up and threads that needed to be pulled back through. I also cut up some old shirts I had tying around and used some gorgeous material that my friend got my for my birthday and did up some picture frames. I’m not sure what I’m going to do with the rest of it but I’m sure that I will find some use.

However I always have time to pop by the lovely daydream lily :) .Above are a couple of pics from a recent posting of hers.

Ah the small things

A couple of little things that I enjoyed on the weekend and put a smile on my face.

1- Seeing my $8 rip off shoes I got for Thailand in Overlands for $ 100. Everything is exactly the same except the brand on the inner sole. Ah I love the way my pretty white shoes look in the grass. I feel like a kid again, so giddy with silliness and filled with joy.

2- The comforting Autumn clouds. They are always so full and crisp against the tinkling, streaming sun light at this time of year.

I hope you all had lovely moments like these in your weekends xxx Ah the small things

opening weekend

The first weekend of May means one thing and one thing only back on the farm. Duck shooting season begins. Everything is put on hold this weekend; rugby is missed, relief milkers are organised and sleep is postponed. Mum spends the days leading up to opening morning baking and cooking so the boys have enough to eat while they camp out in the mi-mis down by the river waiting for the sun to rise and the birds to fly.

My brother Crutch and his girlfriend Steph have a new puppy, Teal the newest addition to their family (now 4 Labradors).

She is so beautiful and ran around the deck smelling and playing with the dead ducks while they are being plucked.

It seems I have officially become a city girl as my hand for plucking is a bit rusty and I don’t take to it quiet as well as the others anymore. I’m more interested in the beautiful colours of the feathers and how they illuminate in the morning sunshine.

Kendall Berry, my kid sister had a photography assignment to do around surrealism. So we did a bit of a shoot...Slightly disturbing... More pics on the farmer’s daughters.
