Yay it’s Friday and for me that means floating away up the coast to the beach house. I will spend my weekend with my lovely family, some extended family and friends. We will sit in the spa and drink wine, play cards and scrabble as the weather is looking rubbish and eat delicious food. Have a good weekend all.
Today I am sore. I had my first personal training session for the year yesterday. I have not been to the gym for 3 weeks. Today I woke up and went to spin class which turns out was not my smartest move and I am now hobbling around like an 85 year old lady. I almost didn’t go and get coffee today because I knew I would have to walk back up the stairs to the office on my return.
I did however think that my nice white shoes looked pretty in my gym bag*. Ah new shoes, new year and for filling old resolutions. *People must have thought I was a crazy pervert taking photos in the changing rooms. I’m not, I swear. I just like my pretty, white trainers.
A couple of days over our new year’s trip to the Coromandel we had a bit of rain. While I was a little sad about missing out on potential prime sun bathing days I was also rather excited as it meant I had an excuse to go back to Paeroa (the home of L&P) and check out the antique shops. (It is the antique capitol you know.)And it was indea everything it leads us to believe; Interesting and more often than not, downright Unusual!
When I was younger my parents would always stop at antique shops. And of course it was the most boring thing in the world because antique shops are in the quietest towns where all that exists are small town cafes (filled with soggy asparagus rolls) and antiques shops, boar.
Now however my taste buds have grown and not only do I like asparagus rolls but I also love antique shops! I love looking at all the old things and the way they are displayed in the shops. You have to fosic, open draws and lift things to discover the precious 1810 newspaper that lines the old hat box at the bottom of the pile. The funny smell; a mix between wood polish and moth balls and the small cramped spaces where everything has been thrown together in an anything kind of goes fashion.
Some of these beautiful gloves were made with the most beautifully crafted lace and they use to be gardening gloves! I brought some lovely driving gloves made with a mix of leather and lace for $3. Old fur coats that were in amazing nick and were as cheap as chips. And not just a few but racks of them, in different styles, colors and styles. I collect tea cups, so was taken with one store that had tea cups lining the skirting boards. However nothing took my eye, I’m a bit fussy and have to feel a real connection with a tea cup in order to buy it, so didn‘t make a purchase that day. I got talking to one of the shop owners and she told me that pocket makeup mirrors, bags and a whole dining room table that was cover with jewellery (all of it costume of course) had come from one house. It’s rather sad to think people die and all their belongings get taken to stores to be sold for a pittance. But then again I think that’s why I like antiques. Because they have a story, a life, emotions. I find them comforting; almost like friends... man that’s sad isn’t it. Ha, I’m glad I don’t take myself too seriously.
I have just discovered SoKo a French singer and also actress, (thanks daydream lily). She has a great voice, one that you may expect from a which from a 65 year old women. Yet it is sweet and emotional and mixed with her lyrics I have found her loveable very quickly.
I think I have been developing a crush on the French, the women especially. I love the cherry blossom girl and now SoKo. Also a few weeks ago a French girl came to look at the room in our apartment. I found myself laughing and giggling and being enchanted by everything she said. Now I think about it she must have thought I was a complete weirdo.
I’ll kill her (above, preformed live in Denmark ) is one of her most popular hits. I found this snip-it from her web site interesting:
SoKo put up “I’ll Kill Her” at her MySpace for some friends in November 2006. This version, which she recorded in her bedroom, isn’t really that much to her liking. Telling Courier Mail: “Say you want to do a huge painting, and you make a little black and white sketch on a napkin and you’re like, ‘I want to do that with a lot of color and really big’. Then people are like, ‘Oh no, this one on the little napkin is really good, we should put in a museum’. But that’s not what you want to do.”
An Interesting wee lass to keep an eye on. She has been doing a tour in Australia, I hope she comes here soon. You can also check out some of her music on last fm.
This post for my friend Peti, she loves elephants. And she is also stuck inside Harvey Norman selling Vacuum Cleaners and Coffee Machines on such a lovely day. Sorry it’s trunk is not up (because when it’s trunk is up it’s good luck but this time it is just no luck) but you must admit it is a fine specimen.
I love coming home to the farm, but I especially love going home just before Christmas because the garden looks beautiful. The hydrangeas are bursting to the brim, the miniature roses creep along the roof top and the lilies spanning in all colours of the rainbow stand tall and proud, soaking in the all the sunshine while they tinkle their toes in the lake edge. And everywhere I turn there are flowers. I secretly pretend I’m in the movie the Secret Garden. (Because secretly I actually believe my life is a movie*) There are pretty colours everywhere and when I search a little it is not long before I come across evidence of a friendly creature or two. *I was informed the other day that this is an actual disorder call the Truman Syndrome. This was developed after the 1998 movie the Truman show. But I just laugh to myself as I know the cameras are out there.
