a pinch of sweetness

To be yourself in a world that is constantly trying to make you something else is the greatest accomplishment.
Ralph Waldo Emerson

A sweet little quote from a sweet little friend. Thanks sweetness x

just so dam honest

Last night was one of my co-girl guide leader’s last night as she is off organising the final touches to her weeding before she gets married in a few weeks.

I got the girls to all write a card that we gave to her last night. When I went to add my bit I couldn’t help but laugh at a few of the star words of encouragement and advice the girls gave for Rainbow Owl’s big day.

“I hope you eat lots of cake”
and
“Have a great Wedding Rainbow Owl; I hope ya don’t get dumped!”.

Hahaha, I love these kids, they are great and just so dam honest. I’m very much looking forward to going on camp with them this weekend! I can’t wait to hear some of these classic calls
, though being out of cell phone coverage with only girls to talk to might be a struggle.

Rainbow Owl we will all miss you at our meets over the next month. Good luck for your special day we will be thinking of you and Mr Rainbow. xxx

i'm too excited!

This weekend is homegrown!!! Yay, I’m so excited about this weekend. I have family and friends (new and old) coming from around the country to this event and it’s looking like Friday will be just as big as Saturday!

Yesterday my friend Lizzie described her excitement as “fizzing”. With this little picture to help express her excitement, I must say that today I must agree.

Homegrown only started last year but took over from x-air. Last year we owned it staying in the electronic tent most of the day. But this year there are so many things to see and I can see a bit of stage hoping going on.

Must sees are: Kora, State of Mind, Tiki, Dick Johnson, Tim Phin and of course ending up with good old shapeshifter, bringing the crew together despite where we have all wondered off to during the day. Check out the timetable so make sure you print it off and circle your musts. See you there.

I secretly hope everyone feels like cranking hard afterwards with the after party at shed 6 and samies line up on the cards. This is going to be my last big weekend for a while so I will defiantly making the most!

You can also find all these guys on last fm. So put on the headphones and crank away for the next few days, it will definatly put you in high spirits!

hats in all shapes and sizes

Last weekend I spent time in the Hawkes Bay visiting a friend. I just love things that are old things from the past decades and Napier is well known for the art deco period. So we couldn’t resit popping into a few antique shops and having a squiz around. The jewellery, gloves and bits and pieces, so much to take in! However this time it was the hats that took my fancy! Here are a few of our favourites (to come, as they are up on my friend’s camera in the bay).

It reminded me of all the hat pins my Nana gave us earlier in the year. My Nana use to be make all her own dresses, hats, shoes and handbags so I have been completely inspired to her to teach me some of the tricks of the trade so I can make my own hats! Watch this space!

I was disappointed to find out that the week before they had a whole week celebrating it. The main occasion being the long lunch. How fun it would have been to dress up to the nines and dine at the250 meter long dining table by the sea side.

It’s funny how you seem to attract a particular thing all at once. Today I see Hannah + London has a post “i hat it when”. Ha, great minds...

fringe

I’m super excited to be heading to Wolf Lair at Bats tonight. Bats is such a fun theatre and had a lovely amateur atmosphere with professional performances.
The play is based around “a young woman with dreams of being a ballerina, at 22 years old she became Hitler's private secretary. She served him right until the bitter end. A glimpse of an ordinary woman caught up in extraordinary circumstances”. What a fantastic play to see with my girls!

Oh how I love girly nights. Though the rugby is on afterwards and both my cousins are playing, so I may have to stop by a bar on the way home and watch for a few minutes. Oh what a shame to see men run around the field! I do live a tough life!

michael pattison

One of the girls I went to design school with (Lauren Marriott) has been just done some modelling for the Michael Pattison winter 09 collection. I love the mixture between the carnival and upmarket style and she hold the clothes so well!

“Consistent with Pattison's passion for quality fabrics; signature textiles include an exclusive vintage silk crepe print and gorgeous engineered merino stripe combined with velvet, tartan, denim and wool jacquard to indulge the eclectic sultry world of Carnivàle.”

I love these boots, hot! And look at those calves!
Hodded jacket. I see what's happening here!

And the dress! Oh la la.

Once again this style/theme feeds into my crush for all things french.

giggling like a school girl.

Today has been a day filled of giggles and laughter, I have been giggling like a school girl all day. I’m so glad I find myself so entertaining and enjoy my own company. Now I think about it this could be a little concerning.... Then again it’s not just me who I find entertaining but my friends as well. Look at this great image my friend Lizzie sent me!

Every time I look at it I can’t help but giggle. I’m not sure why, maybe it’s because I love cows or maybe it’s because I’m actually becoming my Mother’s daughter and I know it’s something my Mum would love.

Thanks Liz, it really set the standard for the rest of my day. xxx

lushmail

A friend of mine writes lushmail. This email consist of quotes from the radio live breakfast show staring Marcus Lush. I especially like this quote from this morning’s pool:

“Valentines Day tomorrow and at Rainbow’s End they’re having speed dating on the rollercoaster…which…I won’t judge.”
Is talking to his producer: “so if you wanted to go along to the speed dating, don’t give up on it just because…oh…are you off the market?”

I am all giggles right about now!

I’m trying to convince my dear friend she should start a blog recording all these wonderful things but she isn’t so convinced. Therefore if you would like to join lushmail please let me know by leaving a comment and I will pass your email address onto her.

a post for peti

This post for my friend Peti, she loves elephants. And she is also stuck inside Harvey Norman selling Vacuum Cleaners and Coffee Machines on such a lovely day. Sorry it’s trunk is not up (because when it’s trunk is up it’s good luck but this time it is just no luck) but you must admit it is a fine specimen.
